Martialnote

For an iaido dojo

Iaido is often practised in a small group, with precise katas and slow progress. What counts is not the number, but the accuracy of what has been earned.

What your dojo has to keep

Katas are learned one by one, and the quality of a kata is worked on long after it was first seen. Iaido dojos are often small, with students coming from far away and seminars bringing several groups together. Ranks exist, but they are earned slowly, and a dojo can work perfectly well with few students and few promotions.

  • Katas learned one by one.
  • Precision work after learning.
  • Small groups, students coming from far away.
  • Seminars bringing several dojos together.

What Martialnote does for this style

A kata program is described item by item, with no need for a rank at every step. One-off sessions host the seminars, and free notes keep technical remarks from one class to the next. The rank template adjusts to your dojo's system, and attendance is taken without interrupting practice.

  • Kata program, item by item.
  • One-off sessions for seminars.
  • Technical notes kept on the record.
  • Discreet attendance, without interrupting.

Ranks

A rank template is offered as a starting point, with no official character: it describes a common usage, which your school renames and recolours freely. Promotion conditions — age, months of practice, attendance — are set per rank.

  • Iaido (ZNKR) — Kyu, Dan
  • Generic kyu and dan — Kyu, Dan

Questions

Does a five-student dojo need it?

The free plan covers up to 25 active students, with no time limit: a small dojo pays nothing.

Can I keep technical remarks on a student?

Yes: a free, dated note can accompany an item or stand on its own.
