What Martialnote does not do
Never promise any of these. If someone asks for one, say clearly that the app does not do it (or not yet) and, where relevant, suggest what exists.
No app in the App Store or Google Play. The web app installs on the home screen from the browser (Install the app button in the menu).
No password. Sign-in works only through a link sent by email.
Student fees are never collected. The app takes neither credit cards nor transfers for the school: it tracks who paid, it does not collect money. It sends no payment link to students or parents. This is separate from the school's subscription to Martialnote, which is paid by card through Stripe (article "Paying the Martialnote subscription").
No receipts, invoices or taxes for student fees. They produce no document. (The Martialnote subscription does have receipts and invoices, sent by Stripe.)
No payment reminders by email for student fees. Late payments are visible in the app (Fees screen, Today card).
Martialnote plan: the school pays it by card through Stripe, but the app does not do refunds or changes of rate or category: a refund of the first payment is requested by email to bonjour@martialnote.com within 30 days; the category is set once and for all. No voluntary payment at 25 active students or fewer: the school is free. No proration on cancellation (however, switching from monthly to yearly takes effect immediately and Stripe credits the unused part of the month paid): the subscription runs to the end of the paid period, with no refund of the rest. Becoming a pilot school (free) cannot be requested in the app: the Martialnote team grants it. Prices are taxes included; no tax number is provided for now. Only the owner pays; an instructor cannot.
No proration for student fees: a period that has started is due in full.
One payment per subscription: a single payment cannot be split across several students.
No date of birth. We only record whether a student is a minor (under 18).
A minor has no contact details of their own. No email or phone for the child: the school communicates with their parents or guardians.
No immediate deletion. Anything deleted spends 30 days in the trash, then disappears for good. This delay can be neither shortened nor extended.
Instructors never see contact details (emails, phones) of students and parents. Only the school owner sees them. The emergency contact is visible to everyone.
Export: all or nothing. The export (Settings > Data, owner) always holds all data except the trash: no filters, periods or table choices, no automatic or scheduled export.
Subscriptions: no named sessions (fall, winter): a multi-month subscription is a monthly subscription with an end date. No email is sent when someone goes over their plan.
One time zone per school (Settings > School), for all its classes.
No export of the schedule to a calendar.
A class cannot go past midnight (start and end on the same day) and there is no 5th week of the month.
Photo of names: one page at a time, no PDF, and no guarantee for handwriting. Read names must be checked; the option is off by default and the photo is not kept.
Messages by email only: no SMS, no notifications, no replies in the app (they arrive at the "Reply to" address), no scheduled sending, no templates, no attachments or formatting, no message to a single student. A sent email cannot be recalled.
One school per person. An account belongs to a single school; you can't create a second school with the same email, invite an email that already has an account, or move an account to another school.
Support by email only (bonjour@martialnote.com, Help screen): no chat, no phone, no guaranteed response time.
The help assistant takes no action: it looks at no school data and does nothing in the app; it explains the user guide. 20 questions per school over 24 hours (5 during the trial period); no conversation is kept.
No account deletion in the app, and no self-service school closing: write to support (bonjour@martialnote.com). The owner can export all data first.
No list of pending invitations, and one owner per school.
Limited vocabulary: the teacher title and the sequence word only change one progression help sentence and the items created afterwards by the starter template; the rest of the interface keeps its labels.
No official titles (sifu, sensei, master…) are ever added before people's names.
Grades: grade systems (belts, stripes, requirements, awards) are available and optional. The app does not know students' ages (no date of birth): the age requirement stays "to check". There is no list of "students ready for a grade", no filter by grade, no printable certificate, no exam fees or registration, and no expiring grade. Templates are not official: Martialnote is not affiliated with any federation.
Progression is not shared: neither parents nor students see it (no student portal and no sharing with parents).
No videos or attachments on notes, milestones or curriculum items.
Trial period: a new school sends at most 50 addresses per day and no message with a link, invites at most 3 instructors per day, and reads at most 10 photos of names per day (instead of 50). Those are the only limits; the rest of the app works from day one. The period lasts at least 14 days, with real activity.
Export: at most 5 exports per day per school.
Student import: at most 10 imports per hour per school.
Record creation outside import: at most 300 per hour per school.
The school cannot resubscribe anyone: after an unsubscribe, a bounce or a complaint, only the person concerned can resubscribe (see the "Unsubscribing" article).
