Martialnote

Navigation, colour and language

Who: owner and instructor.

The side menu

On a computer the menu is on the left. On a phone, open it with the three-line (hamburger) button at the top left; it closes when you choose an entry.

Entries: Today, Attendance, Students, Schedule, Fees, Messages, Settings, Help (the user guide, with search, and how to reach support; see the Help article). Fees appears only for the owner; so does Messages, unless the school allows instructors to write (see the Messages article). Under Help, the outlined Install the app button opens the instructions to put Martialnote on the home screen (see the article "Install the app on the home screen"); it does not appear when the app is already installed. At the bottom: the signed-in person's name and their role. The colour, the language and Sign out are in Settings.

Going back

Screens you don't open from the menu have a back arrow at the top left: a student's profile, student import, the trash, Groups (back to the Schedule), the attendance sheet (back to the screen you came from: Today, Attendance or Schedule), a help page (back to Help), Install the app (back to Today) and "This section is for the school owner". It returns to the previous screen. If you arrived directly through a link, it leads to the starting screen: the student list for a profile or the import, Settings for the trash, Today for that last one. The browser's or phone's back button also works.

How the app looks

The app has a single, dark look: a darkened photo as the background, frosted-glass cards (translucent and blurred) and rounded buttons. There is no light mode. The photo cannot be changed.

On a computer, with Chrome or Edge: if transparency is reduced in the system (macOS: System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce transparency; Windows: Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects > Transparency effects off), the app shows opaque cards without blur. The photo stays in the background. This setting has no effect in Safari or on phones: the app always keeps its glass cards there.

Changing the colour

Four accent colours: Vermilion (red, the default), Teal (sea green), Saffron (gold) and Indigo (electric blue). The accent colour is used for main buttons, links, icons and the selected item. The rest of the app stays the same.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Under Colour, tap the swatch you want. The app changes right away.

Alerts (late fees, over plan, errors) are amber, or coral with Saffron, so they never blend with the accent colour.

The former visual styles (Clean Zen, Dark Premium, Family, Authentic) no longer exist. Each person's choice was converted automatically: Clean Zen and Authentic became Vermilion, Family became Teal, Dark Premium became Saffron.

Glass or opaque

Under Settings > Surfaces, two choices:

  • Glass (the default): cards, menus and bars are translucent and blurred; the photo shows through.
  • Opaque: cards, menus and bars are solid, without blur. Text keeps the same contrast everywhere, whatever part of the photo is behind. Lighter on a slow phone.

The photo stays in the background in both cases, and the chosen colour does not change. The app changes right away.

Changing the language

French or English.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Under Display > Language, choose Français or English. The app switches right away, without reloading.

Where these choices are kept

Colour, surfaces and language are saved on the person's account: they follow you to any device after signing in. Each person has their own choices; they change nothing for others. If saving fails (no Internet connection), the app says the preference was applied on this device but not saved to the account: it applies on this device, simply set it again later.
