Exporting all data

Who: the owner only (Settings › Data). Instructors have no access.

Export

1. Open Settings, Data section.
2. Tap Export everything: workbook (.xlsx) or Export everything: CSV files (.zip).
3. The file downloads right away. It is created on demand and Martialnote doesn't keep it.

File name: the school's name in lower case, without accents, with dashes, then today's date in the school's time zone, for example ecole-du-tigre-de-jade-2026-10-23.xlsx or .zip.

There are no filters, periods or table choices: the export always holds everything. You can export as often as you like.

Even when read-only. Export always stays possible, including when the school is read-only because of an overdue payment or suspended: the school's data is never held back. Only the owner has access, as usual (see the payment article).

Formats

• .xlsx workbook: one sheet per table; the first row (header, in bold) gives the column names. Opens in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.
• .zip of CSV files: one .csv file per table, in UTF-8 (accents show correctly in Excel), comma-separated, one header row.
• Columns are the database's, in English, identifiers included (to link tables together). Dates as YYYY-MM-DD, dates with times in ISO format. An empty cell = no value. It is a full backup, not an accounting report.
• The students table includes enrolled_on_estimated (estimated enrollment date, true or false) and the school table includes the plan columns (billing_state, pricing_tier, billing_exempt, notified_on, first_payment_on). See the Martialnote plan article.

Content (one sheet or file per table)

school (school settings, one row), billing_settings (family discount), messaging_settings (Reply to, instructor permission), students, families, guardians (parents and guardians), groups, student_groups, classes, class_versions (each class's schedule over time), class_version_groups, class_sessions (sessions), class_session_groups, attendance, overage_acks (overages seen), plans, plan_groups, subscriptions, subscription_months, subscription_pauses, dues, payments, curriculums, curriculum_categories, curriculum_items, student_curriculums, item_progress (learned / validated statuses), progress_entries (notes and milestones), grade_systems, grade_series, grades, grade_awards (grades and stripes awarded), messages (history of messages sent), school_measures (monthly counts of active students, for the Martialnote plan).

What isn't exported

• The trash: nothing in the trash is exported, nor what depends on it (for example the attendance of a student or a session in the trash).
• The email sending queue (recipient addresses), the change log, name photos (never kept), sign-in accounts.
• Another school's data: never.
