Martialnote

Compare approaches, not brands

There are several families of software for martial arts schools. We name no one: we describe the approaches, and you will recognise yours.

Priced per student or per school

The most common model charges per active student. It makes sense for a gym selling drop-in subscriptions, but it punishes a traditional school that grows: every new student raises the bill, while the work of the tool itself does not increase. A flat price per school makes growth neutral as far as the software is concerned. Do the maths with the rate of your current tool: multiply it by your number of students, and compare. That is the only figure that counts, and it comes from you.

  • Per student: the bill follows growth.
  • Per school: the bill stays stable.
  • The free threshold changes everything for a small school.

Built for the gym or for the dojo

Tools that come from the fitness world talk about subscriptions, membership cards and retention campaigns. Traditional schools talk about forms, weapons, ranks and promotions. A tool that knows only the first vocabulary will make you bend your practices; the opposite will make you give up features you do not need.

  • Fitness: retention, campaigns, membership cards.
  • Dojo: curricula, ranks, attendance, dues.
  • The difference shows in the first week.

The questions that settle it

Before choosing, always ask the same questions: can my data leave freely, and in what format? Does the price depend on the number of students? Do I have to install an application, or does everything happen in the browser? What happens if I stop paying? An evasive answer to any of those four says more than a long feature list.

  • Can I export my data, at any time?
  • Does the price depend on the number of students?
  • Do I have to install anything?
  • What happens to my access if I stop paying?

Questions

Does Martialnote name its competitors?

No. We compare approaches — per student or per school, fitness or traditional — without citing any brand.

Why a flat price rather than per student?

Because the work of the software does not change with the number of students. A school that grows should not see its bill climb for that reason.

Is Martialnote right for a large gym?

It is designed for traditional schools. A gym with very frequent group classes may find something better elsewhere.
